TYPE OF WORK:

General

The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) Electronic Permit System (e-Permit system) determines the available type(s) of work presented to the e-Permit user based on the following three items:

  1. The state contractors license "class code",
  2. The "Building Type Description" selected for the building, and
  3. Three distinct parcel profile attributes that may be associated with the parcel on which the building is located (i.e. "Historical", "HPOZ", or "CRA").

If the desired type(s) of work are not available or if no types of work are available, it means that one or more of the items above prevents one or more of the 11 possible types of work from being processed over the e-Permit system. To obtain the required permit(s), visit your nearest LADBS Construction Services Center. The impact of each of the three items above on the 11 possible types of work is detailed below. The final list of the available type(s) of work shown on the e-Permit system for a given project address is determined by the combination of all three of the items shown above.

State Contractors License "Class Code"

Use the table below to determine the available type(s) of work for the "class code" associated with the state contractors license input by the e-Permit user. A "YES" in the table below indicates that the given type of work will be available for the "class code". A "NO" in the table below indicates that the given type of work will not be available for the "class code". Note the following "class code" definitions:

B: General Building Contractor
C-9: Drywall Contractor
C35: Plastering Contractor
C39: Roofing Contractor

"Building Type Description" Selected for the Building

Use the table below to determine the available type(s) of work based on the building use description selected on the "Building Type Description" page by the e-Permit user. A "YES" in the table below indicates that the given type of work will be available for the building use description. A "NO" in the table below indicates that the given type of work will not be available for the building use description. It is important to note that if the wrong building use description is selected on the "Building Type Description" page, either by mistake or in an attempt to manipulate the available type(s) of work, serious consequences may result. When LADBS inspection staff visit the site for the first inspection, they may be unable to complete the requested inspection and may require that a supplemental permit be issued to correct the building use description. Supplemental permits can only be issued at LADBS Construction Service Centers and will require an additional fee. Therefore, don't attempt to use the e-Permit system unless you are confident that you can correctly and accurately identify the building use description on the "Building Type Description" page. If the building use description is not shown on the "Building Type Description" page, visit your nearest LADBS Construction Services Center to obtain the required permit(s).

Three Distinct Parcel Profile Attributes

There are three distinct parcel profile attributes that may be associated with the parcel on which the building is located. The first, "Historical", signifies that the parcel contains a building or structure that has been identified as a city, state, or federal historical monument. The second, "HPOZ", signifies that the parcel is located in an area designated as a "Historical Preservation Overlay Zone" to protect the historical nature of the area. The third, "CRA", signifies that the parcel is located in an area designated as a "Community Redevelopment Area". Use the table below to determine the available type(s) of work based on the three distinct parcel profile attributes. A "YES" in the table below indicates that the given type of work will be available for the parcel profile attribute. A "NO" in the table below indicates that the given type of work will not be available for the parcel profile attribute.
